As we near the end of the 20th century, culture emerges from the most diverse places. Not many years ago, activating reflection and cultural happenings was an obligation of the State, not always fulfilled. Until very recently, the obligation of a commercial enterprise was to sell a product and turn a profit.

Things are different now, and fortunately for everyone, culture is becoming a part of the very fabric of the social system. The State, through its central, autonomous and local governments, promotes cultural practice; in addition, many other players also project cultural initiatives.

Both for-profit and non-profit culture-oriented firms are created. The State and cultural institutions begin to share their obligations with others, destined to take on an enormous importance in the coming times: a large number of commercial enterprises devote part of their possible profit to cultural activities. It does not matter that these activities normally have an underlying communicational or promotional purpose in relation to the commercial product itself, because the most important fact is that good cultural products are beginning to appear through the initiative of selected commercial firms.

This is the case of MANBAR. It is not my place to explain the professional excellence of this company. Nevertheless, it does seem logical to me to highlight the company's success in conceiving and performing the exhibition of GATCPAC and interior decoration. From November 29th through mid-January, the city of Barcelona will host a major display of our country's cultural production based on the analysis and reflection of one of the most distinguished phenomena of our recent cultural history: the GATCPAC and Rationalism.

Our city has been the birthplace of great creators in all fields, but it has also been a pole of attraction for great figures of world culture. Therefore, because our city is a city of culture and because we want it to be even more so in the future, we cannot but congratulate ourselves for the fact that a private initiative has managed to present an exhibition promoting and advocating a significant movement for our culture: the GATCPAC.
